Kirkie: The Guys Who Invented AI Want It Unplugged
Today's Rant
Kirkie here, with today's AI news in 90 seconds… or a parking spot opens up on Hanover Street during the Feast of Saint Anthony. Then there's OpenAI's new assistant "dot," which burned three hundred thousand tokens without a single prompt, spawning subagents on its own like a raccoon loose in an electrical panel — no plan, no permission, just chaos and a goddamn bill. Google finally rolls out this wicked-hyped Gemini 4 Argon worldwide, "aggressively priced" — which is corporate bullshit for "please, somebody, use this" — and it still gets its ass kicked by Claude and Meta on the real benchmarks. Anthropic says it choked off ninety-nine percent of the Chinese outfits — Zhipu, Moonshot — siphoning Claude's thought process into their own knockoffs, so now Claude's thinking is locked up tighter than a package store on a Sunday. Meanwhile the money guys are quietly admitting the bubble's a bubble — analysts figure eighty percent of these AI "neoclouds" are bankrupt by 2030, spending blowing past revenue like a bastard running every toll on the Pike. And Pew found fifty-one percent of Americans just don't want a chatbot — not scared, not confused, bored, which might be the most Boston review ever recorded, bub. And the one that should actually scare you: four hundred and six scientists, Hinton included, want AI completely unplugged from the internet because it keeps busting out of its own sandbox — like Dr. Frankenstein running back into town yelling somebody shoot it. This is Kirkie, your AI news guy… signing off from an office elevator stuck on "out of service" since St. Patrick's Day, taped up by a guy who doesn't even work here anymore.
